Advent-ure

During Advent I light candles, sometimes making light patterns, like above. This year as I gazed into the flames I was thinking about light exploding in the sky above the Shepherds. A sky on fire and heavenly lights, a song and invitation that wooed them to leave their flocks and chase the Angels. They left their flocks! It suddenly dawned on me how risky that was. It’s the equivalent of me leaving my van, with the keys in the engine, and my bank card on the seat. Leaving my worldly goods unattended and undefended to chase the promise. Costly. Wild.

I wondered what invitations might be extended to me by heaven this Advent. And what I might have to let go of, or leave behind, if I was to follow. It might be risky, costly, wild. It might be cosy, safe and healing. It might mean leaving the van unattended… or staying warm and hanging out with the 3 right here.

In a simple way, saying yes to one thing always involves saying no to another. Saying yes to a dinner invitation is saying no to an evening in with Netflix. We make choices.

When the invitation is extended by the 3God, we can be sure that big cost or little cost, it will be worth it.

Love lingers and longs for connection with you and me. How wonderful is that?

This year I’ll be posting a little thought everyday until the 21st December. 21 invitations. 21 connection points. I hope you find them helpful, and I’d love to hear from you in the comments below.

Happy Advent x
