Sometime ago I asked one of my sons to draw the four faces of God for me. I was inspired by the Celtic depictions of the four faces of God, and the way they saw each of the gospel writers painting for us the different ways each writer expressed something of the heart of God through their writing. My son reflected to me that most of the images I shared with him were somber. He wondered if the faces of God, the four living creatures that reflected Him on every side, would rather be full of joy, gathered as they are in ecstatic dance and union.
So he drew them as he imagined. The images are above on this website page. We then designed some cards together with words and reflection starters on the back. If you’d like a set, let me know via the contact box – I’d love to send you some. I’ve found them to be a joy. As I wonder at the images, the name of Yahweh, the way the different “faces” reflect facets of his nature, the way the gospels illuminate these facets, I find myself deeper in worship. As I encounter the heart of God expressed through the art, through scripture, I find my heart healed, and the path ahead of me illuminated by a new knowing.
I’ve made a couple of videos with meditations, songs and sounds on them to help engage with the cards. there are links to them below. I’d love to hear how God is speaking to you through them…….
